Finding What Feels Good!

Updated: Aug 26, 2023

Snapshots of me on my yoga mat.

I discovered Yoga with Adrien videos on YouTube back in 2015 when I moved to Seattle and was looking for a way to stay active in the rainy weather. The videos were easy to follow, tailored to all levels, and easy to practice from home.

My experience with yoga over the years can best be described as getting on my mat, (always with Adrien!) hitting a stride in my practice and then falling off in hard times.

In January, my friend Brian challenged me to practice a month of yoga, and in the midst of one of the hardest times of my life instead of falling off my mat I decided to attempt to change old habits and hop back on. The challenge to a month of yoga has lead to six and a half months (and counting!) of daily practice.

I’ve noticed some awesome physical changes in my body this year. I feel stronger, taller, leaner. I’m sleeping better. My energy is up. My flexibility is improving.

Time spent on my mat has been physical and mental and emotional. Sometimes my practice just looks like sitting on my mat and noticing how I feel. Sometimes it looks like warriors flows and back bends and balancing postures. On my mat I’ve laughed, breathed deep, cried, surprised myself, fallen asleep.

I’m proud of myself for growing in my practice. I’m learning about patience and self love and acceptance and forgiveness. I’m learning about trusting my instincts and finding what feels good. I still have a lot to learn!

I know yoga isn’t for everyone but my practice has really helped me in a hard time. I don’t feel 100 but I do feel better!

If you ever need the link for the videos I’ve been doing HMU I’m happy to share.
