Summer... A Look Back

These days look like unhurried rises and slow mornings. In summer, a morning light that is buttery and mild filters through the branches of an oak tree outside the window into the bedroom. (Think baked apples, chamomile tea, yellow roses, lemon peel, fresh cream.) I’ve been drinking lots of cups of coffee, sometimes stirred with scoops of hot chocolate powder, sometimes not. For breakfast, one or three nectarines sliced up and a big scoop of @dannon coffee yogurt. Do you notice all the fresh flowers I’ve arranged around the house? In the dining room a vase of powder blue hydrangeas and a blooming white orchid. Peonies in the bedroom, stargazers in the living room. Ocean breezes that blow through my open windows swirl around the fragrance of florals; they tangle with the sheets on the bed, the curtains in the bedroom. It’s nice to read here, in the quiet of the morning. I recently enjoyed Jules Vern’s “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”. I’m about to start Henry James’ “The Bostonians”. Later, a smear of SPF, a toke or 10 (Will I ever stop smoking pot?), and a big gulp of water prepares for a walk. At the beach a peppering of shells and stones and sea glass. See all the seals and sea birds and sea weeds? (All I see is magic.) After, a flow on my mat, (Check out Yoga with Adrien on YouTube!) the flicker of a sea salt and moss candle. I’m savoring every last drop of solitude and I’m really learning to like spending time with myself. Isn’t that great? I might brew another coffee? Maybe a bubble bath, steeped with lily-scented bath salts.
